We would like to express our deepest sympathies to everyone during this scorching heat.
This July was a truly turbulent month. A variety of events occurred both domestically and internationally, including Trump tariffs, a Hong Kong fortune teller's prediction, and the Liberal Democratic Party's crushing defeat in the House of Councillors election.
The decline in tourists from Hong Kong in particular likely affected Dotonbori Shopping Street.
Climate change is also a serious issue, and Japan is experiencing record-breaking heatwaves. This heat is also having a major impact on the agricultural and livestock industries. Chickens are suffering from heat fatigue and no longer lay eggs, pigs are growing slowly, and there are concerns about a decline in rice quality in areas with little rainfall. The rise in bonito prices may also be due to this abnormal weather.
Even in these circumstances, we are pleased to see Dotonbori Shopping Street bustling with activity. While weekday visitor numbers are down slightly, nearly 60,000 people visit on weekends and holidays.
This year, the "Dotonbori Bon Odori International 2025" will be held again on Saturday, August 16th.
We look forward to your participation.
Please take care of yourself as the intense heat continues.
